I have been perfecting my apple pie for the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest, which is coming up in 2 weeks. I must win this year, with my Tequila Apple Pie, but first I need to perfect my crust and filling. My filling needs an apple that won’t dissolve (I used mackintosh last night and they turned to mush, which tastes good but the consistency is off). Apparently for my crust, according to Jenni, I need a butter slicer/pastry maker to make a fluffy crust, since she won’t send me hers in the mail to use.
The house still isn’t done. Our furniture is supposed to come Tuesday, and then our neighbors are giving us an awesome mantle to put in front of the recessed fireplace (which I think is going to be awesome!)
I had a horrible day yesterday. Brendan accidentally took my car keys to work, so I had to frantically call my friends from work to get someone to pick me up. I was so so mad, and just in such a bad mood the whole day. But I decided to just “drop” the issue and not talk about it later, and I really think it kept me from smacking Brendan’s head off like a rabid alligator when I got home. We had hired an electrician who was supposed to come last Thursday (canceled) then Saturday (canceled) then Monday (didn’t show). Fuck you, Bern.
Maybe that’s what you get with craigslist?
I can’t find my ipod, and I physically cannot work out without it. Which is so lame, but it’s true. I have been working out 5 days a week for about 9 months now (I can’t believe it either), and my ipod is the only thing getting me through it. And now it’s gone. It’s got to be in the house somewhere, but I SWEAR I have looked everywhere it could be.
So when I find it I might go to the gym. Or watch the biggest loser and drink this new pumpkin beer I bought.
Okay I lied. But I promise after tomorrow I will put up more pictures. We are having our ceiling fans installed, furniture delivered, and a screen on the Juliet Balcony installed tomorrow, so it will be a busy day at the house.
I am having a hard time with the picture posting. It takes a lot longer than you would think. Hopefully I’ll get better at it.
School has been really hard. But I’m not going to get into that. Brendan and I are going to Charlie Trotter’s tonight, which is supposed to be amazing. It’s one of those 12 course meal type places, and our reservation isn’t until 9pm, so I don’t plan on doing much tonight.
We went to Vegas last weekend with his work and it was very fun. I fell asleep when we went to see Le Rev at the hotel we were staying at. But really, who starts a show at 10:30pm? We also gambled and managed not to get married. And ate In-n-Out, which is my favorite thing about the Pacific Coast. Sure beats the Ocean.
Today we went to get new couches for the house and when we measured them, the one we wanted was too big to fit in the living room. I then got really crabby and wouldn’t talk to Brendan. It didn’t help that he didn’t know where the furniture store was and parked too far away. But we figured out that we are going to buy two loveseats instead of the big couch. I also want to get a credenza, also known as a sideboard. We might buy them tomorrow. We still need to finish so many things. It’s funny that you think you will make your house perfect in a matter of days after you move in, but instead we are going on a month and it feels like so much to do. There is still a disemboweled ceiling fan sitting in the middle of the bedroom floor, where we gave up on it. I guess I need to hire an electrician.
The neighbors who we share the entryway with, smoke. It’s starting to stink. They are renters, so I am hoping their lease is up soon.
Tonight I’m hoping to play scrabble and crack a bottle of rose on the roof, if it’s not too hot. School starts Tuesday and I am dreading it to a point.
